On Friday, the Chicago Sky played the Los Angeles Sparks and prevailed 92-78 thanks to an outstanding performance from rookie Angel Reese.
The youngster finished with 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 24 points. Reese made shots 1-3 from three-point range and 9-15 from the field.
The Sky’s seven-game losing streak—which had previously been the longest in the WNBA without a win—ended with the win.
After the game, Reese discussed the huge victory for Chicago and said that although it has been a challenging journey, the pressure has allowed the Sky to grow as a team.
Reese admitted, “It hasn’t been easy.” We gained a lot of self-awareness. Pipes crack under pressure.”
It wasn’t until the Sky defeated the Sparks on August 17 that they had won a game. They had previously defeated the Sparks, this time by a score of 90-86.
Chicago has lost eight of their last ten games after returning from the WNBA’s summer Olympics break.
Reese hasn’t been the Sky’s issue at all. With the exception of one game over that ten-game period for Chicago, Reese has registered a double-double.
Chicago’s first-year star was averaging 13.3 points and 13.2 assists per game prior to the matchup against the Sparks. She leads the WNBA in average rebounds and is the only rookie averaging a double-double.
Despite Chicago’s collapse, she has contributed to the Sky’s postseason chances with her skill set.
They are ranked as the eighth-best club in the WNBA rankings with a 12-22 record following their victory over the Sparks.
