Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals were faced with a formidable defensive display from the New England Patriots. Following an extended and intense match, the Patriots emerged victorious with a final score of 16–10.
New England began a new era with a victory, as Jerod Mayo recorded his first career victory in his role as head coach.
The Patriots are still not considered a strong contender in the AFC by the majority of the media. They will obviously not be an easy squad to beat, though. They want to make games ugly and have adopted a smashmouth style of play.
Keion White, a defensive end, was one of the team’s most important players in the victory.
In the end, White recorded 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and four total tackles. With the defence playing well together, the Bengals were unable to force a shootout.
White revealed on Instagram that he had been chosen for a “random” drug test after his incredible performance.
There are countless amusing tales of athletes receiving arbitrary drug testing following outstanding performances. It was only the most recent instance of that.
White’s transition into a top-tier pass-rusher at age 25 is crucial for the defence. Following the departure of standout defensive end Matthew Judon, concerns arose regarding the source of the pass-rush.
New England will need to stop the run and apply pressure on quarterbacks in order to win this season. They must also run the football efficiently. The Patriots genuinely aim to disrupt their opponent’s rhythm and make games nasty, so their old-school style is more than just a catchphrase.
Having said that, it will be intriguing to watch White’s performance in Week 2. Will he return to Earth or be able to carry on with his amazing play? I hope the version of him that we seen last week is a sign of the kind of year he’s going to have.
