Although Josh Allen’s performance—completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown—wasn’t extraordinary, he isn’t concerned about it.
In fact, the quarterback feels pleased that his modest individual stats reflect the team’s unselfishness and depth, which may have been underestimated. “Guys don’t really care about the credit,” Allen remarked postgame, according to ClutchPoints. “Our defense played extremely well today… Anytime we have that on our side, the stats aren’t going to look great for you, but the scoreboard will.”
Allen continues to express the right sentiments, and his observations seem accurate. The question of who will emerge as the leading pass-catcher in the offense remains unsettled, with Khalil Shakir currently at the forefront with five catches for 54 yards in Miami. Nevertheless, Buffalo is effectively scoring points. The team leaned heavily on running back James Cook, who amassed 95 total yards and three touchdowns. Allen also highlighted the defense’s role in their successful road victory, as Ja’Marcus Ingram recorded two interceptions, including a pick-six in the third quarter, and Christian Benford added another interception. The Bills effectively stymied the Dolphins’ potent offense, limiting all players except running back De’Von Achane.
However, it’s hard for Buffalo to fully enjoy this significant team victory given that Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion. Allen, head coach Sean McDermott, and numerous others across the league have expressed their support for Tagovailoa while he awaits further medical evaluation.
The Bills now have an extended break before they host the Jacksonville Jaguars for a Monday Night Football game in Week 3. Maintaining their unselfish approach will be crucial as they navigate this new era of Buffalo football.
