The New York Liberty secured their fifth straight victory by defeating the struggling Dallas Wings with a dominant score of 99-67 on September 12. The Liberty displayed a well-rounded performance with eight players contributing at least seven points each. Sabrina Ionescu led the team with 20 points, along with five rebounds and six assists. Under the guidance of coach Sandy Brondello, the Liberty, with a league-leading record of 31-6, are gearing up for a highly anticipated match against the Minnesota Lynx this Sunday. The Lynx, on a four-game winning streak, hold the second-best record at 27-9. Ionescu acknowledged the significance of the upcoming game, recognizing it as a crucial test for the Liberty as they aim to avenge their two previous losses to the Lynx this season. In a video shared by the Liberty, the All-Star guard expressed the game’s importance, labeling it as a ‘statement game’ between the top two teams, emphasizing the need for exceptional performance throughout the entire 40 minutes.
In their first meeting, the Lynx defeated the Liberty 84-67 in May 2024. A month later, they met again, and this time, Minnesota prevailed narrowly, 94-89.
Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones have been leading the Liberty’s recent rise in scoring, with significant contributions coming from all angles. In the meanwhile, Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBride, and Courtney Williams are leading the Lynx.
