The Montreal Canadiens re-signed veteran defenseman Gustav Lindström to serve as a temporary replacement for David Reinbacher, who is recovering from knee surgery.
Throughout the NHL preseason, many teams faced significant injuries, and the Canadiens were no exception. During the same game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, both Laine and Reinbacher suffered injuries.
Laine is anticipated to be sidelined for two to three months due to a knee sprain, while Reinbacher’s recovery after surgery will take five to six months. He was expected to play a key role with the Laval Rocket in his first full season in North America, gaining essential experience alongside teammates like Logan Mailloux, Adam Engstrom, Owen Beck, and Joshua Roy.
To help the Rocket start the season on a good note, the Canadiens sought a replacement.
In recent news, they announced a one-year, two-way contract with Gustav Lindström. The 25-year-old right-handed defenseman previously played 14 games for the Canadiens and four games for the Rocket last season before being claimed off waivers by the Anaheim Ducks. He recorded three goals and one assist with the Canadiens, but didn’t score with the Rocket. He also played 32 games with the Ducks last season, contributing six assists.
After confirming his signing, the organization announced they would place him on waivers to loan him to the Rocket. We’ll find out tomorrow if another team decides to claim him, which would be disappointing for the Canadiens.
Meanwhile, anticipation builds for their home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Fans are eager to see if any lingering tensions from the preseason will resurface between the two teams. With both teams improving and aiming for greater achievements this season, their rivalry is expected to intensify, and we’re excited to see how it plays out on the ice.
