Teuvo Teravainen scored two goals and provided two assists, leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
Connor Bedard and Seth Jones contributed a goal and two assists each, while Philipp Kurashev netted another goal for Chicago, which snapped a two-game losing streak and achieved its first victory of the season.
Goaltender Petr Mrazek recorded 35 saves, securing his fourth career win over the Oilers.
For the Oilers, Corey Perry and Leon Draisaitl scored, and Calvin Pickard stopped 15 shots in the losing effort. Edmonton has now lost two consecutive games as it begins its four-game homestand.
Teravainen extended Chicago’s lead to 4-1 on a power play at 5:35 of the third period, scoring his second goal of the season by redirecting a shot off Oilers’ defenseman Darnell Nurse and past Pickard.
Draisaitl then narrowed the gap, scoring his first of the season at 10:01 of the third with a one-timer from Connor McDavid’s pass. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins provided the second assist, marking his 700th career point.
Teravainen closed out the scoring with his second goal in the final minute of the third period, converting another power-play opportunity by one-timing a pass from Alex Vlasic for his third goal of the season.
After two periods, the Blackhawks led 3-1.
Perry equalized for the Oilers at 4:55 of the second period, scoring his first of the season by converting a rebound from Jeff Skinner’s shot that deflected off Blackhawks defenseman T.J. Brodie.
Jones restored Chicago’s lead to 2-1 midway through the second on a power play, firing a wrist shot from the point for his first goal in his 800th NHL game.
Bedard added a third goal for Chicago with a wrist shot past Pickard at 13:58 of the second, marking his first goal of the season.
Kurashev started the scoring by redirecting Taylor Hall’s shot past Pickard for his first goal on his 25th birthday with 4:10 left in the first period.
This game was the first of three encounters between the Oilers and Blackhawks, with their next meetings scheduled in Chicago on January 11 and February 5.
