Matt Coronato scored two goals, and Andrei Kuzmenko added another to propel the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks.
This victory allowed the Flames to match their franchise record for the longest winning streak to open a season, originally set in 1993-94 and also matched in 2009-10. Previously, they had started a season with at least three consecutive wins on five other occasions, including 4-0-0 in both 2009-10 and 1993-94, as well as 3-0-0 in 2022-23, 1989-90, and 1990-91.
Coronato was selected 13th overall by the Flames in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, noted for his offensive skills, puck-handling, and strong shooting ability. After his draft, he spent two seasons at Harvard, scoring 36 points in 24 games each year while showcasing a quick release shot that made it hard for defenders to block.
Dustin Wolf recorded 31 saves for Calgary, improving his record to 2-0-0 this season and 10-7-1 overall in his career. He became the fifth goaltender in Flames history to achieve double-digit career wins before turning 24. The others are Pat Riggin (51), Trevor Kidd (50), Dan Bouchard (34), and Mike Vernon (34).
For the Blackhawks, goaltender Petr Mzarek managed 23 saves, as Chicago fell to 1-2-1 on the season.
