The Buffalo Sabres kicked off their 2024-25 season with two games against the New Jersey Devils in Czechia as part of the NHL’s Global Series. Although the Sabres lost both matches, an intriguing mystery arose during their trip.
A few days after their return, iconic singer-songwriter Bob Dylan tweeted about encountering a Sabres player in an elevator at their hotel. Dylan mentioned that the player invited him to one of the games, but he was unable to attend due to a concert commitment.
Dylan’s tweet did not identify which player he met, prompting the Sabres to investigate. Despite some light digging, no one has come forward. The team even created a video encouraging all players to determine who had the encounter with the music legend.
Many players shared their guesses, but goalie Devon Levi quickly became a prime suspect. When questioned, Levi asked if the player in question was “Timmy Chalamet,” referencing the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic featuring Timothée Chalamet.
While Levi maintained his innocence, defenseman Jacob Bryson suggested that they “ask Tage,” alluding to star forward Tage Thompson. When Thompson was approached, he smiled and responded, “I don’t think so.”
Embracing the situation, Thompson remarked that it “could have been” him but stopped short of confirming the famous elevator ride. He tried to downplay the encounter by claiming he didn’t know what Dylan looked like. The Sabres’ administration chimed in, pointing out that Thompson, who plays guitar as a hobby, must be familiar with the legendary musician’s appearance.
In the end, Thompson remains the leading suspect, but the actual identity of the Sabres player who shared the elevator with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer remains a captivating mystery.
