In surprising news, Mike Matheson will not return for the game against the Kings due to an injury.
At the beginning of the second period, the defender was absent from the bench.
This is unfortunate. Although the Canadiens have not officially declared the game over, Stéphane Robidas mentioned to Marc Denis that it appears it might be the case.
Montreal will have to continue the match with only five defensemen: Lane Hutson, David Savard, Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, and Kaiden Guhle.
On a positive note, Hutson will get a chance to play on the first power play unit…
Here’s hoping Matheson’s injury isn’t severe. He has been the team’s most utilized defenseman this season and clearly stands out as the top player in the lineup.
