Buffalo Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau didn’t merely spend time in the Tennessee Titans’ backfield during his team’s encouraging Week 7 victory; he nearly moved in.
The fourth-year pass rusher was a constant threat to quarterback Mason Rudolph, persistently pressuring him as he recorded a team-high 11 quarterback pressures and half a sack. Although not all of his pressures turned into sacks—thanks to Tennessee’s strategy allowing Rudolph quick options to throw in the flats—Rousseau still made a significant impact, notching an impressive six quarterback hits in the game.
This performance marks the highest number of quarterback hits by any NFL player in a single game this season, according to Bills PR. Previously, Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions, and Logan Hall of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held the record with five quarterback hits in a game.
Rousseau’s six quarterback hits in Week 7 doubled his previous best for a single game, having only recorded three hits in Buffalo’s Week 5 defeat to the Houston Texans earlier this season. This game could serve as a turning point for the 24-year-old, whose performance has been relatively average since he tallied three sacks in the Bills’ Week 1 victory against the Arizona Cardinals; his half-sack against the Titans marked his first quarterback takedown since then.
While Rousseau isn’t in a contract year, he could be in line for an extension since only his fifth-year option remains after the 2024 season. The Bills are eager for this immensely talented player, who has accumulated 20.5 career sacks and has been solid against the run, to progress and become a consistently impactful disruptor; performances like the one against Tennessee are exactly what they hope to see.
