As the NFL approaches its trade deadline on November 5, reports suggest that another high-profile wide receiver is on the market. Dianna Russini from The Athletic disclosed on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Rams are considering trading Cooper Kupp, the former NFL Offensive Player of the Year. The 31-year-old, who has made 585 receptions for 7,213 yards and 52 touchdowns over his eight-year career, has been sidelined for the last four games due to an ankle injury. With the Rams currently at 2-4, they are open to trading the veteran to regain some draft assets.
If Kupp is traded, he would become the third top-tier receiver to switch teams this season in an unusually busy trade climate. Recently, multiple-time All-Pro Davante Adams was traded to the New York Jets, shortly after the Buffalo Bills obtained five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper. Kupp has the potential to make a significant impact for whichever team acquires him.
The news of Kupp’s availability surfaced during a live episode of The Pat McAfee Show, where the panel mentioned Buffalo as a possible destination, despite their recent pickup of Cooper. In a light-hearted moment, McAfee called Bills general manager Brandon Beane while on air to discuss the rumors. Their conversation was muted during the call, and McAfee did not directly ask Beane about Kupp but instead inquired about how such rumors typically arise.
McAfee recounted that discussions about player availability often start when teams mention players are “available” while possibly not wanting to appear actively engaged in trade talks. He noted that information can come from various sources, including agents, and highlighted how rumors tend to circulate among multiple outlets, reflecting an underlying communication from teams.
Despite Kupp’s apparent interest in the Bills, a trade to Buffalo seems unlikely due to his $15 million salary this year against the team’s limited $2.5 million in available cap space. The Bills have already made their move for a receiver with Cooper, and following his solid debut, they may not see receiver as an immediate need. While Beane has mentioned he remains open to trades before the deadline, acquiring Kupp doesn’t seem very feasible.
