The New York Rangers have started their season strong, posting an impressive 4-0-1 record over five games. However, they have yet to see one of their top defensemen in action.
As they prepare for their game against the Montreal Canadiens, head coach Peter Laviolette announced that defenseman Ryan Lindgren is set to return to the lineup. Lindgren will make his season debut after recovering from an upper-body injury sustained earlier in training camp, which the team initially thought would sideline him for about a month.
With his recovery complete, Lindgren is ready to take the ice for the first time this season. He will join 22-year-old rookie Victor Mancini on the third defensive pairing. Meanwhile, Chad Ruhwedel and Zac Jones have been covering for him during his absence.
Lindgren is in the final year of a contract worth $4.5 million against the salary cap. At 26 years old, he has played 333 NHL games, all with the Rangers, accumulating 10 goals and 70 assists for a total of 80 points. As a crucial member of the Rangers’ defensive lineup, Lindgren aims to secure a new contract amid potential roster changes.
