It’s quite uncommon for an NFL team to face the same player in consecutive weeks, but the recent trade involving the Seahawks might give the Buffalo Bills that chance.
Seattle has traded linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for linebacker Ernest Jones IV. Jones just played against the Bills, recording five tackles and a quarterback hit on Josh Allen. He previously spent his first three NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Titans this August. Last season, Jones had impressive stats with 145 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and six quarterback hits, establishing himself as one of the league’s top linebackers.
The Titans appear to be giving up on the season, trading Jones shortly after DeAndre Hopkins’ trade to the Kansas City Chiefs was announced. Jones is known for being a tough run-stopper and a reliable tackler. With their division-rival San Francisco 49ers struggling with injuries, Seattle is likely looking to assert their dominance in the division and improve their run defense, which has been a significant weakness.
Currently, the Seahawks are allowing an average of 5.0 yards per carry, placing them 28th in the league. Opposing teams have averaged over 29 rushing attempts per game, totaling 146.1 rushing yards.
While the Bills took advantage of Tennessee’s secondary last week, their rushing game managed only 74 yards at 3.7 yards per carry, largely due to Jones’ performance. Against the Seahawks, the Bills’ offense will face a tougher challenge, and they must remain on schedule and avoid setbacks against a strong and skilled secondary.
