Following a lackluster performance last night at the Bell Centre, attended by several club legends, the Canadiens have decided to give everyone the day off.
Yes, you read that correctly.
This decision has sparked some discussion, particularly among those who recall the days of rigorous training sessions that often come after such poor showings.
I have no objection to giving players a break, as they definitely earn it, but I find the timing here a bit unusual. Conducting a tough practice or a disciplinary training session immediately after a game can pose injury risks and hinder recovery.
It’s also dangerous to schedule one the day before a game, for obvious reasons.
However, in this particular situation, Martin St-Louis and the Montreal Canadiens had a prime opportunity. The team played Tuesday, with their next game not set until Saturday, and it will be at home.
With today being the day after the game and Friday the day before the next one, Thursday would have been the ideal day for a rigorous practice—but that didn’t happen.
