After Thursday’s practice, there were some updates regarding injuries for the Chicago Blackhawks. Here’s the current situation for goalie Laurent Brossoit and defenseman Alec Martinez.
Alec Martinez Approaching Comeback
The Blackhawks anticipate that Alec Martinez will soon return from a right groin injury. He participated in the early part of Thursday’s practice but left when more intense drills began. Head coach Luke Richardson expressed confidence on Tuesday that the seasoned defenseman would travel with the team on their upcoming road trip, which kicks off on Saturday against the Dallas Stars.
Martinez has been on injured reserve since October 17 due to a persistent groin issue that has affected him since the start of the season.
Laurent Brossoit Recovery Timeline Update
The Blackhawks will rely on Arvid Soderblom as their backup goalie for the time being, as Laurent Brossoit is still 1-2 weeks away from being ready for game action. Richardson indicated that Brossoit might join the team during their road trip, but likely not until next Thursday in San Jose. The Blackhawks had signed Brossoit to be their No. 2 goalie, but those plans have been delayed due to the 31-year-old’s ongoing injured/non-roster status following offseason meniscus surgery on his right knee.
For now, Soderblom will continue to back up Petr Mrazek, with his next start slated for Saturday against Dallas.
