Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher each contributed a goal and an assist, leading the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday night.
Jake Evans and Cole Caufield also found the net, while Cayden Primeau made 23 saves for the Canadiens, marking their first back-to-back victories this season and their first win on the road after three attempts.
For the Flyers, Travis Sanheim scored twice and Travis Konecny added another goal, as the team struggled with only two wins in their first nine games. Aleksei Kolosov made his NHL debut in goal, recording 20 saves.
The Canadiens took control in the second period, scoring three times to establish a 4-1 lead. They initially went ahead 2-1 when a shot from Logan Mailloux deflected off Gallagher’s leg into the net for his third goal of the season. Eight minutes later, Caufield scored on a power play, gathering a loose puck near the left circle, dropping it, and firing a wrist shot inside the left post for his eighth goal. Just over three minutes later, Evans scored with a sharp-angle one-timer, extending the lead to 4-1.
Sanheim brought the Flyers within reach with a goal at 2:12 left in the game, converting after a strong individual effort. Konecny’s goal with 1:43 remaining added to the tension for the Canadiens, who faced intense pressure in the final minute but held on for the win.
Each team netted a goal in the first period, with Suzuki scoring at 10:42 for Montreal and Sanheim equalizing late with a shot from the left point that eluded Primeau through traffic.
