The Buffalo Bills and veteran safety Mike Edwards may be heading towards a separation as the 2024 NFL trade deadline approaches.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Edwards is seeking a trade and the Bills have made him available. “Veteran Buffalo safety Mike Edwards is on the market and is looking for a team where he can play (having been frequently inactive).”
The 28-year-old was brought in by the Bills earlier this offseason to bring veteran experience to the defensive backfield after the departures of Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
However, during the summer, Edwards struggled to practice due to multiple injuries. Initially seen as a potential starter, even general manager Brandon Beane had noted his prospects. But after missing time in both spring practices and training camp, the Bills opted to start Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp at safety.
Consequently, Edwards has often been a healthy scratch during games, as noted in the report.
The trade deadline is scheduled for November 5.
