Khalil Shakir adheres to a straightforward set of principles that have propelled him to the forefront of the Buffalo Bills’ receiving lineup.
Even with an ankle injury causing him to miss one game, Shakir currently leads the team with 421 receiving yards and boasts the highest catch percentage in the NFL at .947. The fifth-round draft pick from 2022 has successfully caught 36 of his 38 targets, averaging 11.7 yards per catch.
“I don’t overthink it, to be honest,” Shakir remarked following Wednesday’s practice in Orchard Park. “It’s all about preparation during the week and focusing on the details. When the ball is thrown my way, I aim to make the best play I can.”
Shakir achieved his first 100-yard game of the season in the 31-10 victory against the Seattle Seahawks on October 27, recording 107 yards on 9 of 10 targets. According to quarterback Josh Allen, Shakir has become a reliable target.
“It’s about being in sync with the quarterback, being in the right spot, and executing the small tasks. When the ball comes to you, you need to make that play,” Shakir explained.
The agile receiver has made multiple catches in all seven games he has played this season. After enhancing his value with touchdown receptions in both of the Bills’ playoff games last season, Shakir has welcomed his increased role in the offense. Although his duties have expanded, his objective remains unchanged.
“My job as a wide receiver is to prepare weekly and get open,” Shakir stated.
