Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen excels in virtually every aspect of his game, but his standout skill is undoubtedly in the red zone. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 240 pounds, Allen can effectively dissect defenses with both his arm and intellect, while also using his exceptional athleticism to evade, overpower, or outmaneuver defenders. This unique combination of abilities, along with his fierce competitive spirit, makes him extremely difficult to defend against when scoring is on the line. His exceptional performance in the red zone has contributed to an NFL record of 241 total touchdowns in his first seven professional seasons.
He is so dominant near the end zone that ESPN commentator and former Buffalo coach Rex Ryan has suggested that Allen might already be the best red-zone quarterback in history. During a recent segment on ESPN’s Get Up, Ryan praised Allen’s skills in this critical area of the field, expressing his belief that Allen is a strong contender for his first NFL MVP award this season.
“He may be the greatest red zone quarterback ever because of his mobility and decision-making,” Ryan said. “Last year, I thought he deserved the MVP title. This year, he’s already had 10 fewer turnovers compared to this time last season. He’s thrown only two interceptions, one due to Amari Cooper slipping and the other on a missed catch by Keon Coleman. To me, he’s an absolute powerhouse. He’s my pick for MVP.”
In his most recent game, Allen threw three touchdown passes against the Miami Dolphins, two of which were scored in the red zone. One standout play was a remarkable fourth-quarter touchdown he delivered to Quintin Morris, where he skillfully avoided a tackle and tossed the ball to an open spot in the end zone, allowing Morris to catch it. This play encapsulated Allen’s unique ability to perform under pressure.
Allen’s next chance to showcase his red zone capabilities will come in Week 10 when the Bills face off against the Indianapolis Colts.
