Rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman sustained a wrist injury after a tough hit from former Bills player Jordan Poyer during last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins and did not participate in the first practice of the week as the team prepares to face the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Sean McDermott provided a vague update on Coleman’s condition, indicating that he won’t practice today and that they are approaching his situation “one day at a time,” with a possibility that he could be out longer than just this week.
In a separate update, McDermott mentioned that wide receiver Amari Cooper would take part in Wednesday’s walk-through.
If it were up to me, I would recommend sitting Coleman if he’s not fully recovered. The Colts aren’t likely to pose a major threat to Buffalo, particularly in the running game, as their defense ranks 28th in EPA/Rush. This should allow running backs James Cook and Ray Davis to exploit that weakness effectively. With Cooper expected to play, giving Coleman a chance to heal completely seems like the best option.
With a receiving corps featuring Cooper, Khalil Shakir, tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, along with running backs capable of catching passes, Buffalo should have more than enough firepower to perform well offensively this week.
It’s also important to note that following the game against the Colts, the Bills will host the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions and a significant challenge for Buffalo, the following week. I would prefer having a fully healthy Coleman available for that match instead of risking further injury in a game where his impact may not be as crucial.
