Even at a prominent program like Georgia, which has become a national force, recruiting in-state talent is crucial.
The interest of any top player from Georgia in the Bulldogs, led by head coach Kirby Smart and his team, is significant when they ultimately choose to come to Athens.
Consequently, the Bulldogs are celebrating their recent recruiting success with the commitment of CJ Wiley, a four-star wide receiver from Alpharetta, Georgia. It’s notable that Wiley was previously committed to Florida State earlier this year but decided to decommit from the Seminoles in late October as the team faced ongoing difficulties on the field.
Transitioning to commit to the Bulldogs was not a major leap for him; he mentioned to 247Sports’ Kipp Adams that Georgia’s wide receivers coach, James Coley, frequently reached out to him even while he was committed to FSU.
“I would say probably every day or every other day,” Wiley noted about his communication with Coach Coley. “They really don’t try to change my mind. Coach Coley just says they need me and wishes I was there.”
The persistent communication from Coley and the Bulldogs has yielded results, as Wiley has become UGA’s 25th commitment for the 2025 class, which is currently ranked third in the nation, trailing only Alabama and Ohio State.
Wiley is recognized as the 13th best wide receiver in the country and the 11th top recruit in Georgia, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
