LOS ANGELES – Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell has been selected for the watchlist of the prestigious John R. Wooden Award, as announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Thursday.
The list, created from a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, features 50 athletes who are considered early contenders for the Wooden Award, which includes honors for the All-American Team and the Most Outstanding Player Award.
Heading into the 2024-25 season, Murrell has gained significant national recognition, being included on the watchlists for both the National Player of the Year and the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year by the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. He also received preseason all-conference accolades from both media and coaches.
Currently, Ole Miss is ranked in both the AP and Coaches Top-25 Polls, sitting at 24th and 25th, respectively. The Rebels kicked off the season with a commanding 30-point win over Long Island on November 4 and will face Grambling State in a home game on November 8 at 6 p.m. in the SJB Pavilion as part of their non-conference schedule.
