As reported by TMZ Sports, two teammates from the Glen Waverley Football Club in the Eastern Football Netball League are facing disciplinary action after making a bet during a day of heavy drinking on August 14.
The bet allegedly required the loser to perform a sexual act on the winner in a crowded bar, and the incident was filmed and went viral, attracting the club’s attention.
The identities of the players have not been made public.
In a statement provided to TMZ, club officials announced, “The Club is taking immediate action to address the serious breach of our culture and values that has occurred within this incident.” They added that the involved individuals, along with the entire team, will undergo discipline, education, and possibly counseling regarding the expected conduct of club members, as well as the emotional and physical toll this situation has had on their families, other club members, and the community at large.
The club also emphasized the need to respect the well-being of those involved as they cope with the aftermath of the incident.
According to Sam McPhee of Daily Mail Australia, the Glen Waverley Football Club’s season has concluded, and they have been relegated to Division 4. The players are also accused of causing damage to the bar’s property.
Considering this situation alongside a recent incident at an MLB game involving the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics, it seems the sports community could benefit from a reset during the upcoming Labor Day weekend as they head into the fall months.
