Howie Roseman has a history of successfully selecting players from Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs football program.
For two consecutive years, the Philadelphia Eagles have had more Georgia players on their roster than any other NFL team. The standout trio of Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Nolan Smith are often mentioned together as recent first-round picks. Nakobe Dean, a third-round selection in 2022, is enjoying a breakout season, while fourth-round rookie Kelee Ringo adds to the count, making five former Bulldogs currently on the 53-man roster. Additionally, undrafted wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint is also on the practice squad, bringing it to six.
Could Roseman look to his established connection with Georgia again this coming April?
Vinnie Iyer from The Sporting News recently suggested that the Eagles might choose standout Georgia pass rusher Jalon Walker in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He noted, “Walker would continue the impressive influx of talent from Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs defense, following Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean. Walker can enhance their pass rush and has the versatility to assist against the run and in coverage.”
This presents an intriguing possibility for the Eagles, especially with the potential for a catchy nickname trio of Jalen, Jalon, and Jordan on the defensive line.
Walker shares similarities with Cooper DeJean in that his precise role may not be clearly defined at the beginning of training camp. Kyle Crabbs from the 33rd Team provided further insights into Walker’s profile:
As a linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs, Jalon Walker has multiple avenues for playing time. He can effectively function as a stack linebacker on early downs and has demonstrated strong pass-rushing ability from both off-ball positions and the edge. Walker is heavily built, possesses strong hands, and has powerful pads that enable him to break blocks effectively. His exceptional straight-line speed and lateral agility allow him to navigate through traffic and pursue the ball. Walker emerged as a key contributor for the Bulldogs this year, making his long-term potential all the more promising given his instincts and room for growth.
Considering Philadelphia’s need for pass rushers, especially with Brandon Graham nearing retirement and the lack of returns from Bryce Huff, selecting a player like Walker could excite both Eagles and Bulldogs fans once again.
