The idea of promoting young goaltender Jakub Dobes to the Montreal Canadiens has been discussed by Renaud Lavoie on BPM Sports, and we’re enthusiastic about it.
Earlier today, we noted this possibility, which TVA Sports journalist has now mentioned as well.
As he observes, Kent Hughes doesn’t have to commit to keeping Dobes for the entire season or placing Cayden Primeau on waivers.
Why not allow Dobes to play a game or two while retaining three goaltenders in Montreal for the time being and then evaluate the situation again?
Regardless, Connor Hughes is fully capable of being the number one goalie for the Laval Rocket.
Here’s a particularly engaging part of the discussion:
“The current goalie pair, whether it’s Samuel or Cayden, knows they can elevate their performance. If you want to send a message, you have a promising kid in Laval—take advantage of that and have him play a game. It’s similar to the experience Cayden Primeau had with the Canadiens.”
Ultimately, Dobes is an impressive athlete, known for his remarkable presence and incredible flexibility.
This kid is bound for the NHL, and letting him play a game or two won’t hinder his career.
I love this idea. What about you? Should the Montreal Canadiens call up Jakub Dobes?
