Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart voiced his endorsement for the SEC to the CFP Committee after their hard-fought 31-17 win over the Tennessee Volunteers.
“I invite anyone on the [College Football Playoff] committee to visit this league and experience the atmosphere. It’s a challenging place to compete,” Smart remarked after the game.
With this victory, the Bulldogs improved to 8-2, climbing to third in the SEC, while the Volunteers also fell to 8-2, landing in fourth place.
After a competitive match that saw both teams tied at 17-17 at halftime, Smart hinted at the selection committee, indicating his confusion about the implications of their win.
“I’m not sure what they’re looking for,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t understand their criteria anymore.”
At present, the top six SEC teams each have no more than two losses, underscoring the league’s competitiveness. Although Georgia was not in the latest CFP bracket, they may improve their chances with this victory, particularly since Tennessee was ranked eighth.
To ensure a playoff spot, Georgia likely needs to win their next two games, starting with their matchup against the Massachusetts Minutemen next Saturday.
