The college playoff committee has published two sets of rankings as the college football regular season approaches its conclusion, with the inaugural 12-team playoff on the horizon. Alabama, after a decisive 52-7 win against Mercer, stands at 8-2 and is currently ranked No. 10 in the latest playoff rankings. However, freshman standout Ryan Williams believes his team deserves a higher position.
“I personally think we’re the best team in the nation,” Williams expressed.
With four wins against ranked teams, including triumphs over Georgia and LSU, Alabama has a legitimate argument for the top spot. Nonetheless, losses on the road to Vanderbilt and Tennessee contributed to their placement outside the top five. Fortunately, these setbacks don’t completely derail Alabama’s chance to validate Williams’ assertion. As the final two regular-season games approach, Williams and his teammates recognize that only Oklahoma and Auburn stand between them and a spot in the college football playoff. Achieving that would open the door to myriad possibilities.
While Alabama has demonstrated its ability to compete with and defeat any team, its losses have also revealed some vulnerabilities. However, like every other team, the Tide has its flaws, as none have proven to be mistake-free.
Ultimately, success will hinge on consistency and which team is performing best at the critical moment. Following three consecutive victories, Alabama is aware that it could be the team Williams envisions, and it has an opportunity to prove that in the upcoming weeks.
