The Chicago Blackhawks have been painstakingly deliberate in their plans for developing their next generation of prospects. Since early July, general manager Kyle Davidson has emphasized that players in Rockford can earn promotions to the NHL by demonstrating consistent performance. The rationale for sending even promising players to Rockford is to provide them with diverse game experience.
Recently, the Blackhawks have struggled offensively, scoring just one goal in regulation across their last five games.
Meanwhile, the IceHogs announced their roster for a Sunday afternoon game in Rosemont. In 11 AHL games so far this season, Nazar has emerged as Rockford’s leader in goals (5), assists (8), points (13), shots on goal (31), and short-handed goals (2). His 13 points rank 20th overall in the AHL and fourth among rookies, while his two short-handed goals are tied for second in the league. Nazar has been effective on the power play, penalty kill, and at even strength.
Last year, Nazar played three games with the Blackhawks after leaving the University of Michigan, scoring once. I have been among those advocating for him to get another chance in the NHL, especially after he had a power play goal and an assist on Saturday.
Could Nazar be on his way to Chicago to help revitalize the Blackhawks’ struggling offense? There hasn’t been any announcement of a move on the AHL transaction page, and with the Blackhawks returning from Vancouver on Sunday, it’s unlikely they would make any call-up until Monday’s practice.
UPDATE: The IceHogs have reported that Nazar is currently dealing with a “personal family matter.”
