ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum is critical of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s ranking of the Georgia Bulldogs. He believes Georgia has the strongest case for frustration after the latest rankings, noting that the Bulldogs boast the best strength of schedule in the nation and have a record of 3-2 against top 20 teams, with four of those games played on the road.
Finebaum pointed out that while Georgia’s opponents are ranked variably, such as Texas at No. 3, teams like Indiana and Penn State have not faced ranked opponents consistently. Although Georgia has two losses, Finebaum emphasizes that they have played against many strong teams.
He further expressed his disapproval of the committee’s decisions, stating that it is implausible for the football coaches on the panel to genuinely believe that teams like Indiana, Penn State, and Miami are superior to Georgia. Finebaum argued that Georgia would likely dominate these teams, except perhaps for Penn State, which he thinks wouldn’t manage to score much against Georgia, as none of the mentioned teams have recorded an offensive touchdown against any team in the committee’s top 20 this season.
