The SEC Championship race is extremely competitive as we approach Week 13 of the college football season.
Texas and Texas A&M are at the forefront with 5-1 conference records, closely trailed by Georgia at 6-2 and Tennessee at 5-2. Alabama and Ole Miss are not far behind with 4-2 records.
The race to qualify for the SEC Championship Game is intense, but Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin recently mentioned that some SEC coaches are hesitant about participating due to concerns about jeopardizing their chances for the College Football Playoff (CFP). “I’ve talked to other coaches, and some don’t want to be in it,” Kiffin expressed, highlighting the dilemma of the potential reward of a bye versus the danger of being eliminated. This poses a significant risk,” he added.
Former Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer reacted to Kiffin’s comments with surprise. “I’m shutting you out because I can’t even think like that,” Meyer stated.
Interestingly, Ole Miss still has a shot at the CFP if they can reach and win the SEC Championship Game. Even if they don’t make the title game but win their remaining matches, the CFP Committee might still consider them for the 12-team playoff field when final rankings are released.
Ole Miss’s season will conclude with games against Florida and rival Mississippi State.
