Recently, a rumor surfaced from Georges Laraque suggesting that Kent Hughes and Martin St-Louis had a meeting with Gerard Gallant, claiming they were seen together at a café in downtown Toronto. However, Kent Hughes quickly dismissed this rumor, stating he has never spoken to Gallant in his life. He noted that the last time they encountered each other was at the trophy ceremony in Las Vegas when Gallant received the Jack Adams award, calling the information inaccurate.
This rumor also rekindled an old story from the Marc Bergevin era, when the GM sought a replacement for Michel Therrien in 2017. While Claude Julien ultimately got the job, hockey insider Pierre LeBrun revealed that Gerard Gallant was seriously considered for the role. This is notable given that despite Gallant’s background in the QMJHL, he does not speak French, which could raise questions during a time when language issues were significant in Quebec. The situation shifted with Claude Julien’s unexpected availability after his dismissal from the Boston Bruins.
