Zach Weeks, a four-star linebacker from Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County, announced his commitment to Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers on Monday afternoon, creating a buzz on social media. Weeks, who is highly sought after in the recruiting world, chose LSU over other notable programs like the Tennessee Volunteers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Michigan Wolverines.
This commitment represents a significant victory for LSU, particularly given the backstory that has the LSU community excited. Weeks is the younger brother of current LSU linebackers West and Whit, both of whom are making their mark on the field this season. After completing his junior year, Zach has decided to reclassify into the 2025 recruiting class and graduate high school a year early to join his brothers on the LSU roster.
The plan involves West taking a redshirt year in 2024, allowing all three brothers to be on the same team. The process of making this happen was intricate, especially since it once seemed far-fetched for them all to play together in college.
Over the weekend of the Ole Miss game, Weeks quietly committed to LSU while his family navigated the logistics to make it work. He has played alongside Whit in high school but has yet to share the field with West. Now, that dream is about to come true, and he feels reassured by the guidance of his older brothers.
During LSU’s Tiger Walk, Weeks had a moment of realization about being on the same team as West and Whit in 2025. “It’s wild to think about,” he said. “I was watching the Tiger Walk and saw Whit and West. Now, I’ll be right there next to them.”
While family ties heavily influenced his decision, the role of LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker also significantly impacted Weeks. Baker’s passion and expertise drew Weeks in from the start. “Blake Baker played a huge part in my recruitment,” Weeks noted. “He’s quickly become my favorite person in the program.”
The idea for Weeks to join his brothers became more viable when West decided to utilize his redshirt due to ongoing injuries this season. After learning of West’s decision, Weeks and his family began to explore the possibility of him reclassifying, realizing this rare opportunity might actually be within reach.
Weeks now needs to transition out of his current high school and finish his courses online this spring. He plans to sign with LSU on December 4, the first day of the Early Signing Period, and will arrive in Baton Rouge the following June.
The story of the Weeks brothers has captivated the LSU fanbase, and with Zach set to join the team, the family is poised to leave a significant mark in Baton Rouge.
