Among the top prospects for the Montreal Canadiens, one player is making waves in American college hockey.
While many fans are focused on Ivan Demidov, it’s important not to overlook Michael Hage.
Drafted 21st overall in June’s draft in Las Vegas, this tall right-handed center is validating Kent Hughes’ decision to choose him as his second first-round pick.
At just 18 years old, Hage is in his first season with the University of Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA and has been making a strong impact, especially after an impressive recent weekend. In two games against Penn State University, he amassed seven points—three goals and four assists—capped off by a five-point performance in the second game.
Hage is not only affirming the Canadiens’ choice but is also among the top scorers in the NCAA, with 18 points in 11 games so far this season. He even outshines James Hagens from Boston College, who is regarded as a leading prospect for the upcoming NHL draft.
Given his stellar performances, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kent Hughes considers giving the 18-year-old a tryout with the NHL team at the end of the season, though there’s no rush. Some analysts even predict he could join the team as early as the start of the 2025-2026 season, potentially alongside Ivan Demidov.
Earlier this month, Hage revealed he looks up to Jack Eichel as a model for his game. If he can approach Eichel’s level, it would be a huge win for Hughes and the Canadiens.
