The NHL has acknowledged an error following the game between the Canadiens and Rangers, as pointed out by journalist Marc Antoine Godin.
While the penalty remains questionable, it has at least been adjusted to make more sense. During the incident that took place earlier today at Madison Square Garden, defenseman Arber Xhekaj was initially given a four-minute penalty despite not having done anything wrong, especially when compared to other players involved in the altercation.
The game sheet was corrected to show that Juraj Slafkovsky was actually the one who received the double minor for roughing. While this decision is still disputable, it is somewhat more reasonable than the original call. It’s safe to say the referees didn’t have their best game.
The double minor against Xhekaj led to a power play for the Rangers late in the second period. After realizing the correction, it’s important to clarify this as well. Unfortunately, the penalties took a toll on Martin St. Louis’ team during the game against New York, and the officiating certainly didn’t aid the Canadiens’ efforts.
Joel Armia commented that he felt he was hooked on the Rangers’ game-winning goal, but he also noted that the Canadiens’ penalty kill wasn’t effective in this match.
The team should not be embarrassed about their performance against the Rangers. What about you? What are your thoughts on the officiating today? Do you believe Montreal deserved a better result?
The Canadiens are scheduled to play again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM at TD Garden against the Boston Bruins, with Cayden Primeau expected to start in goal for the second game in just over 48 hours.
