The Montreal Canadiens have placed Rafael Harvey-Pinard on waivers to facilitate a loan to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Laval Rocket.
This season, Harvey-Pinard has netted one goal in five AHL games. He underwent leg surgery in July with a four-month recovery period anticipated. The 25-year-old recorded two goals and eight assists for a total of 10 points in 45 regular-season games with the Canadiens during the 2023-24 season. This was a decline from the previous season, 2022-23, when the 2019 seventh-round pick achieved 14 goals and 20 points in just 34 games with the Canadiens after being called up following a strong showing of 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 40 games with the Laval Rocket.
Harvey-Pinard’s peak professional performance came in the 2021-22 season, where he tallied 21 goals and 35 assists for 56 points over 69 regular-season games with the Rocket, along with 10 points in 15 Calder Cup Playoff games that spring.
In his junior career, Harvey-Pinard excelled with the QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, contributing to both a President’s Cup championship and the CHL’s Memorial Cup championship in 2018-19. Over four full seasons in the QMJHL, he accumulated 110 goals and 152 assists, totaling 262 points in 248 regular-season games.
