New York Islanders – Lou Lamoriello’s Job at Stake and Brock Nelson’s Trade Interest
Islanders General Manager Lou Lamoriello is under pressure this season as turmoil brews within the organization. Head coach Patrick Roy noted, “This is the team Lou gave me to coach,” which some may interpret as a critique of the GM. The Islanders need to become more competitive.
Lamoriello has faced criticism for a lack of goal-scoring, and if the team does not reach the playoffs this year, he could be let go, similar to the previous season, according to a source.
“There were voices within the organization wanting Lamoriello gone before last season, but they were outvoted,” the source revealed. “His playoff appearance bought him some time.”
The challenge is that Lamoriello doesn’t commit to a rebuild or retool; he always believes his team is in contention. Nonetheless, Brock Nelson, who consistently scores around 30 goals, will attract interest from other teams, as he did last year.
“Contenders are already watching him, especially if the Islanders continue on this path,” the source stated. “Vancouver expressed interest in acquiring him last year, and they might try again.”
Currently, there are no active trade discussions for Nelson or Kyle Palmieri, but both could be sought after by the trade deadline, depending on whether Lamoriello considers the Islanders as sellers.
