Welcome to this installment of NHL Rumors. The Montreal Canadiens remain a focal point of trade discussions across the league, particularly regarding Jake Evans. However, he isn’t the only player drawing interest, as the Canadiens continue to capture attention.
After their back-to-back games over the weekend, many are speculating about the future of various pending unrestricted free agents. Alongside other outlets, Full Press Hockey is also considering Kirby Dach’s situation with the Canadiens.
Contending teams are eyeing the Canadiens for potential trade acquisitions as the deadline approaches. While it may seem premature for trades now, the situation could change later on.
Even though the Canadiens are still in a rebuilding phase, they possess valuable assets. In this edition, we explore potential trade targets from the Montreal Canadiens.
Montreal Canadiens – Jake Evans and Others Drawing NHL Attention
Trade speculation surrounds the Montreal Canadiens, with names like Christian Dvorak, David Savard, Joel Armia, Mike Matheson, and Jake Evans being mentioned. There’s also curiosity about Kirby Dach.
Evans, in particular, is a player that teams will consider for depth as the trade deadline nears. He has recorded 12 points (four goals and eight assists) in 24 games. According to Fourth Period, teams are likely looking to strengthen their bottom six for the playoffs, with franchises like Los Angeles and Toronto showing potential interest in someone with a manageable cap hit of $1.7 million, without the need for Montreal to retain salary.
As David Calabretta noted in last week’s Full Press Hockey Weekly Rumors segment, the Canadiens value Evans highly. Moving him would require a trade package similar to what they received for Artturi Lehkonen.
Calabretta remarked, “I think Dvorak’s contract might be tougher to move, but for their UFAs, I don’t anticipate many staying past this season, except possibly Evans. While he could be traded, it will be challenging. If the right offer comes along, he might go, but for now, they prefer to keep him.”
Sources connected to RG corroborate this, indicating, “The Canadiens are not hastily looking to trade him.”
Alongside Evans, Savard and Matheson may also attract trade interest. Matheson, with at least a year left on his contract, is valuable. The Canadiens need veteran defensemen as younger players come up through the ranks.
In addition to Matheson, Savard could also generate significant interest, potentially yielding a strong return for the Canadiens, according to RG sources.
Stay tuned for more NHL Rumors as trade discussions ramp up, affecting not only the Canadiens but other teams as well.
