The Ole Miss Rebels are intent on maintaining their legacy of developing exceptional wide receivers, with the recent addition of Winston Watkins Jr. to the team.
During Wednesday’s Early Signing Day, Watkins chose to join the Rebels, opting for them over schools like Colorado, Indiana, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Miami. He had decommitted from Colorado on November 12, allowing Ole Miss to secure his commitment just in time. Watkins, a four-star recruit, is ranked as the No. 271 player in the nation (No. 38 wide receiver) and the No. 40 player in Florida, according to On3. He plays for Venice High School, having transferred from IMG Academy before his senior year.
This development is significant for Ole Miss’s 2025 recruiting class, which already includes five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham from Choctaw County (Ackerman, Miss.) High School. Cunningham also made a late commitment to the Rebels on November 13, just after Watkins left Colorado.
As Early Signing Day progresses, stay tuned to Ole Miss On SI for updates on the team’s new roster additions. The Rebels also secured a notable commitment from four-star defensive lineman Andrew Maddox on Wednesday, reinforcing their reputation for strong defensive lines in the 2024 season.
Maddox, the brother of Ole Miss backup quarterback Anthony Maddox, committed to the Rebels on June 17. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 285 pounds, he plays for Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. On3 ranks him as the No. 234 player nationally (No. 19 defensive lineman) and the No. 9 player in Mississippi, with offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, and LSU among others.
Maddox is likely to see some early action on Ole Miss’s defensive line, joining local talent like William Echoles who signed with the Rebels in the 2024 class. Continue following Ole Miss On SI for further updates on the team’s roster additions during Early Signing Day.
