Connor Bedard’s intense demeanor surfaced during last month’s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings, as reported by CHSN on Tuesday with a clip posted on X.
The emerging star and Blackhawks captain gained attention for his reaction and interaction with franchise legend and current Red Wings player Patrick Kane after a disputed penalty call.
In the first period of the November 6 matchup at the United Center, Bedard received a minor penalty for tripping Kane. Upset by the decision, the 18-year-old was overheard saying, “Tell him to stand on his (expletive) feet. Soft as (expletive).” This comment was less about attacking Kane personally and more about expressing frustration with the referees during a game where Chicago never held the lead and ultimately lost 4-1.
Bedard seemed to feel that Kane went down too easily during the play, even though Kane had acknowledged Bedard’s talent prior to their confrontation on the ice. “He’s obviously a special player,” Kane remarked about Bedard on November 5, according to CHSN. “He does a lot of things that not many guys can do in the league, like how he stick-handles around defenders or gets a shot off. I think his playmaking might have been a bit underrated coming into the league.”
“He’s had a great start to his career, and I’m sure he’ll keep improving.”
This season, Bedard has tallied 19 points across 25 games, which includes five goals and 14 assists. Kane, a three-time Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner with the Blackhawks, has played in 20 games, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
The Blackhawks are enduring a challenging season, currently at the bottom of the Central Division with an 8-15-2 record. They are scheduled to face the Red Wings again on January 10 in Detroit.
