The Washington Capitals were performing well under the leadership of their captain, 39-year-old Alex Ovechkin, before he suffered a fractured fibula. Ovechkin contributed significantly with 15 goals in 18 games, helping the Capitals secure the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.
Despite Ovechkin’s absence, the Capitals maintain a strong performance with a 17-6-1 record, sitting second in the Metro. When he was playing, Ovechkin showcased goal-scoring abilities reminiscent of his prime.
As he pursues Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record, Ovechkin is committed to maintaining his fitness to counteract the effects of aging. A source from Responsible Gambler revealed that Ovechkin underwent an intense summer fitness regimen.
He vacationed in Turkey with friends but returned to training at 117 kilograms (258 pounds). “Ovechkin has a unique metabolism, and within two or three months, he not only got into shape but also lost additional weight,” the source stated.
To achieve his weight loss and sustain his fitness level, Ovechkin sought advice from professionals and engaged in extra training sessions with his strength coach.
The source indicated that he reduced his weight to 225 pounds, although the NHL Media Site still lists him at 238 pounds, a weight he has maintained for most of his career.
In a light-hearted comment in 2019, Ovechkin claimed to weigh around 260 pounds, making him one of the heaviest players in the league at that time.
Nonetheless, losing weight from 258 to 238 in just a few months is a significant accomplishment for Ovechkin, demonstrating his dedication to staying healthy and performing at an elite level for as long as possible.
When he returns to play, all eyes will be on Ovechkin as he continues his pursuit of Gretzky’s record of 894 career goals.
