We recently received an unacceptable announcement regarding Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki from the Montreal Canadiens. Both players were entirely excluded from the Four Nations Tournament, where they would have represented Team USA and Team Canada, respectively. It’s truly astonishing!
Suzuki is a versatile player who contributes immensely to the Canadiens, able to fulfill any role with an outstanding attitude.
Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield Snubbed
Here are the forwards chosen for Canada:
“Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand, Brayden Point, Seth Jarvis, Brandon Hagel, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Mitch Marner, Mark Stone, Antony Cirelli, Travis Konecny.”
And here are those selected for the United States:
“Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, Brady Tkachuk, Matt Boldy, Kyle Connor, Jake Guentzel, Jack Hughes, J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider, Dylan Larkin, Brock Nelson, Vincent Trocheck.”
These lineups are impressive, but I firmly believe both Suzuki and Caufield should have been included.
Consider that Cole Caufield is currently the top goal scorer for his country yet was not chosen for the team—that exemplifies the situation perfectly.
It’s disappointing, but we do want to extend congratulations to goaltender Samuel Montembeault for his selection, as well as Armia and Laine who were picked by Team Finland.
What are your thoughts—did Suzuki and Caufield earn their place among these forwards?
I can’t help but think about Caufield, whose teammates are on Team USA while he was left out.
What more could he have done to secure a selection?
