As you may know, the Canadiens made a transaction recently, trading Noel Hoefenmayer to the Edmonton Oilers.
This announcement clarifies the organization’s intentions with the offensively-oriented defenseman.
Noel Hoefenmayer will be joining the Laval Rocket. The team confirmed that Kent Hughes’ latest acquisition will report to their AHL affiliate early next week. As reported, Hughes announced on Friday that he had traded forward Jacob Perreault for defenseman Hoefenmayer.
Perreault’s tenure with the Canadiens was short-lived and largely unproductive.
Hoefenmayer, a 25-year-old left-handed defenseman, is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 204 pounds. He was selected in the 4th round by the Arizona Coyotes in 2017 and has played 11 games this season with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate.
In recent seasons, he has recorded:
– 7 points in 11 games (this year)
– 18 points in 47 games (2023-24)
– 38 points in 65 games (2022-23)
His addition could provide an offensive boost for Pascal Vincent, particularly if Logan Mailloux is recalled by the Montreal Canadiens.
Hoefenmayer might assume a significant offensive role on defense for Laval.
It’s also important to note that while the Laval Rocket started the season strong, they have faced challenges in recent games. Additionally, the team lost goaltender Jakub Dobes to an injury last night from what appeared to be a minor shot.
