Last week, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Dallas Stars are seeking a trade to replace the injured Tyler Seguin. While they will initially rely on their current roster, they are expected to explore external options as the trade deadline approaches, with hopes of having Seguin back for the playoffs. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Stars are preparing to make moves.
With each day, new forward names are emerging in trade discussions. The Stars have various potential targets. Known for their strong defensive play and offensive capability, the veteran team needs to find the right fit for their lineup. But who might that be?
Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders is a strong candidate. He is not a self-centered player, but rather a seasoned veteran who can integrate seamlessly into any team. At 33, he has been with the Islanders since the 2012-13 season, and despite the Stars having a younger roster, both organizations share similarities that could ease Nelson’s transition.
So far this season, Nelson has scored 10 goals and registered eight assists for a total of 18 points in 30 games. Over the past two seasons, he accumulated 69 points in the 2023-24 season and 75 points in the 2022-23 season, making him a valuable addition to the Stars’ top six.
Another potential player is Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres. Although his name hasn’t come up as frequently, he could fit well with the Stars. The Sabres have had a rough start to the season and may look to make changes. Tuch, a local player who wants to stay with Buffalo, might still re-sign with them after being traded. The Sabres likely wouldn’t want to risk losing such a talent for nothing.
For Tuch, joining a competitive team like the Stars, which have a strong chance of winning the Stanley Cup, would be advantageous. His style of play, which is impactful and productive, aligns well with the Stars. In 29 games, the 28-year-old has recorded eight goals and 16 assists, totaling 24 points.
