Kirby Dach’s tough season is wearing out not only some Canadiens fans but also various media members. This includes Georges Laraque, who has been openly critical of Dach since the season began.
Recently, on BPM Sports radio with Stéphane Gonzalez, Laraque expressed his frustration about discussing Dach for negative reasons and suggested that Kent Hughes should seek another center for the second line. He stated, “I’m so tired of talking about him all the time,” pointing out that the team is likely aware of the situation.
Laraque emphasized the Canadiens need to find a center, not just for Patrik Laine, but also for the upcoming Ivan Demidov, insisting it’s crucial to surround him well. He mentioned the team would need to take risks, whether considering Dylan Cozens or another option.
The hosts discussed the idea of targeting Cozens, even though Laraque indicated he wouldn’t pursue him. Like Dach, Cozens is also having a lackluster offensive season, with just 15 points in 34 games, despite having a strong 2022-2023 season where he scored 31 goals and totaled 68 points.
While a direct trade between Cozens and Dach isn’t implied, the emphasis lies on the need for quality centers for players like Laine and eventually Demidov. This is an important consideration. Furthermore, Cozens appears to be a name in trade discussions, but his $7.1 million annual salary until 2030 makes him a challenging player to move.
