With the transfer portal closing in just a few days, players need to finalize their decisions and secure new teams. While Wisconsin has been actively recruiting experienced players, over 20 individuals have chosen to leave the program.
One noteworthy departure is standout receiver Will Pauling, who surprised many by announcing he wouldn’t be playing under head coach Luke Fickell anymore. Recently, Pauling revealed that he will continue his college career at Notre Dame.
Former Wisconsin WR Will Pauling has committed to Notre Dame
Losing Pauling is a significant blow for Wisconsin, especially with the added news that CJ Williams will also not be returning. In 2023, Pauling had a breakout performance, recording 74 receptions for 837 yards and six touchdowns. However, this past season was less impressive, as the overall sluggish offense limited him to 42 receptions for 407 yards and three touchdowns, falling short of expectations.
As Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil compete for the starting quarterback position, the Badgers’ offense is set for a refresh. Both Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke are in the portal, and their future commitments remain undecided.
Pauling’s move to Notre Dame is a boost for head coach Marcus Freeman, especially as the Fighting Irish prepare for a matchup against Georgia in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. The upcoming Sugar Bowl between these two teams promises to be exciting, and Pauling will be supporting his future teammates from the sidelines.
