The Michigan Wolverines have experienced a challenging season under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore, concluding the regular season with a 7-5 record after defeating Ohio State 13-10 in “The Game.”
Defensive back Will Johnson has emerged as a key leader for Michigan’s defense over the past few seasons. Since joining the team in 2022, Johnson has recorded 68 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and nine interceptions.
On Tuesday, CBS Sports included Johnson in their 2025 NFL Mock Draft, projecting him to be selected by the New York Jets with the eighth overall pick, where he would join two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Having declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, Johnson will not participate in the Reliaquest Bowl against No. 11 Alabama.
Over the past three seasons, Johnson has played in 32 games for the Wolverines but missed the final six regular-season games in 2024 due to a foot injury sustained against Illinois.
With injuries to their secondary this season, the Jets could benefit from Johnson’s skills. Safety Michael Carter II, cornerback Brandin Echols, and DJ Reed have all faced injuries in 2024.
Joining the Jets would place Johnson in a secondary that ranks fifth in the least passing yards allowed per game, with opponents averaging 188.3 yards against them. Gardner has participated in every game this season, recording one interception and 13 tackles before Sunday’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
Currently, Johnson is compared to Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. The 2025 NFL Draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26.
