As the Kentucky Wildcats come back from their Christmas break, they are still dealing with injuries as SEC play is about to start after Tuesday’s game against Brown. During his Monday call-in show, head coach Mark Pope updated on injured point guard Kerr Kriisa, who recently had foot surgery and will be out indefinitely.
Pope is optimistic about Kriisa’s rehabilitation progress, but confirmed he won’t be playing this week.
“Kerr is doing great,” Pope mentioned. “He was in rehab today. I walked in after practice and saw him working hard. I checked with Brandon Wells about the possibility of him playing this Saturday, but it was a definite no. I don’t know when he might return, but it’s clear he won’t be ready for Saturday.”
Initially, Kriisa was expected to return in 3-6 weeks following his injury on December 7, with a likelihood leaning toward the six-week timeframe. This would mean a potential comeback around mid to late January.
Pope also noted that sophomore center Brandon Garrison has some minor injuries that the team is keeping an eye on, but they are not serious enough to keep him off the court.
“Nothing major, but he’s dealing with a few issues,” Pope said.
On a positive note, Pope remains very enthusiastic about Garrison’s potential in a Wildcats uniform.
“Brandon Garrison is incredibly talented,” he stated. “He’s developing quickly, and his potential is very high, so it’s exciting for him to learn about our play style and figure out how he fits in.”
Let’s hope Garrison’s minor injuries do not escalate into significant concerns.
