Adam Fox and the New York Rangers are struggling near the bottom of the NHL standings. After winning the President’s Trophy for the best regular season team in 2023-24 and getting off to a strong start in 2024-25, the Rangers have now endured a difficult phase, entering Monday’s game with 14 losses in their last 18 outings.
The losing streak continued on Monday against the Florida Panthers, who took an early lead. Although New York attempted a comeback, Florida ultimately won 5-3 at Amerant Bank Arena. Following the game, Fox expressed his frustrations to the media, acknowledging their need to convert improvements into victories. “We came out of this break looking to reset. Last game was really about our special teams letting us down. They were better today, but we need to start winning,” he stated, according to New York Post reporter Mollie Walker. “It’s about getting wins, not just performing better five-on-five. It’s incredibly frustrating. If we continue to play like this, we will start winning. That’s all it takes.”
In the second period, Fox and the Rangers fought back against the Panthers, erasing a two-goal deficit to tie the game 2-2 with goals from Filip Chytil and Ryan Lindgren. However, Jesper Boqvist quickly gave Florida the lead again, only for Chris Kreider to equalize in the third. Unfortunately, New York couldn’t maintain their momentum, as Boqvist scored again to make it 4-3, followed by Aleksander Barkov sealing the game with an empty net goal. The Panthers improved to 23-13-2, while the Rangers dropped to 16-19-1.
The Rangers have now lost 15 of their last 19 games and find themselves at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division after being in contention for the top. They aim to turn things around when they face the Boston Bruins on January 2.
