Brett Berard, who was recently called up from the Hartford Wolfpack, has secured a position in the New York Rangers lineup. His playing style fits well with the team, and he continues to relish the experience of playing at Madison Square Garden.
Since being called up on November 24, Berard has consistently been part of the lineup. Although he hasn’t reached elite status, his speed and physicality are valued by the Rangers. He brings energy to the team each night and has reached the NHL after being a fifth-round draft pick. His hard-working, power-forward approach is one that both the general manager and head coach admire.
Having played 14 NHL games, Berard’s confidence is steadily growing. “I believe that with each game, my confidence increases a bit more,” he stated. “Losing is tough, so it can be challenging to build that confidence, but I think I’m improving. The game is starting to slow down for me, and I’m feeling more at ease.”
Berard has created a connection with his linemates, Filip Chytil and Will Cuylle, earning the trust of coach Peter Laviolette. He feels that playing alongside them has elevated his game. “Things have been going really well,” Berard remarked about his line. “We’ve been generating offense and I believe we can be an exceptional unit. They’re easy and enjoyable to play with, and we all possess speed and competitiveness. It’s been a seamless fit.”
Berard appreciates the opportunity with the Rangers and recognizes that if he continues to perform well, he could have a long career with the team. “I’ve learned not to take any day for granted,” he said. “I’ve worked my whole life for this, starting hockey at three years old, and I’m trying to fully embrace this moment. It’s important to take it day by day, focus on recovery, and be ready for the next game or practice, because I might only get one shot. Each day is crucial for making a good impression on coaches and teammates. Being here is a blessing, and I want to enjoy it.”
So far this season, playing on the Rangers’ third line, Berard has recorded four points (2 goals, 2 assists) and has the potential to develop further as he gains more NHL experience.
