The 2024 National Football League regular season is nearing its conclusion, with only one week of games remaining before some teams head to the playoffs while others finish their seasons. The Philadelphia Eagles are fortunate to be among the teams advancing to the playoffs.
The Eagles have performed well enough this season that they don’t need to focus on Week 18. They will secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs and will rest their starters during the final game of the regular season.
Similarly, the Kansas City Chiefs will also be resting their starters, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as they have secured the top seed in the AFC. This situation provides former Eagles Pro Bowler Carson Wentz an opportunity to demonstrate his skills, as he will fill in for Mahomes. This could be beneficial for him since he will enter free agency after the season. Once considered one of the most promising quarterbacks in the league, Wentz previously signed a four-year, $128 million contract with Philadelphia.
While he may not be at that level now, a strong performance with the Chiefs could help him secure a new contract this offseason. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has speculated that Wentz might sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers to serve as Russell Wilson’s backup.
Benjamin remarked, “Carson Wentz signs with the Steelers as Russell Wilson’s new backup.”
Though it’s too soon to say for certain, the Steelers will likely be in the market for at least one quarterback this offseason, making Wentz a potential candidate.
